Have a Hike on Mount Kenya Through the Naromoro Route

This is the quickest way to the base of the mountain. It is also one of the steepest and most dangerous routes. To avoid a lot of problems even with altitude change, good physical condition is a must. The batian and nelion peaks can be seen vividly from the Mackinder Camp which you walk up through the Teleki valley. A stop over at the Mackinders Hut is a must. Here, you will have excellent and luxurious accommodation. On the first day, you will be driven from Nairobi to the slopes of Mount Kenya. You will enjoy the view of coffee and pineapple plantations. This drive will take approximately 4 hrs. You will have lunch at Naromoro town and thereafter start the walk up he rain forest for 3hrs to Met station which is 3048m above sea level. You will have diner here then spend the night.

On the second day after breakfast, you will continue the journey to the top of the mountain. 5 to 6 hrs later, you will arrive at the Mackinders camp where you will have meals and spend the night. This place offers a spectacular view of the peaks Batian and Nelion. The camp is 4300m above sea level. On the third day at around 3 am, you will begin the ascent up Lenana so as to be there by sunrise. You will be able to enjoy the most wonderful site as you watch the sun rise from this peak. The walk takes about 3 hours.

From this point, you can see Mt. Kilimanjaro, Indian Ocean and Mt. Elgon. Descend down to Mackinders camp for breakfast and continue walking down to Met station for dinner and an overnight stay. On the fourth day after breakfast, yopu will walk down through the rtain forest which will normally take about 2 hrs to Naromoro town where you will get transport back to Nairobi.
