Guam – An Undiscovered American Paradise

Located in the Pacific Ocean south of Japan, in the group of islands called Micronesia, Guam, USA, is a gem hiding amongst the Pacific islands. In Guam, you can experience the ambiance and beauty of a tropical paradise while enjoying the intrigue and mystery of Asia.

Many people are surprised to find that Guam is a territory of the United States. This makes it the perfect vacation destination for Americans because there is no language barrier or currency to exchange.

Guam is a tiny island, only thirty miles at its widest point, and can easily be circled in a day. In fact, driving the circumference of the island to get your bearings is the best way to spend your first day in Guam. You will be surprised by the sharp contrast between the tourist side of the island, which is located around Tumon Bay in the Northwest, and the native side, which is found toward the southern tip of the island. You should try to start your tour in the south because there is a restricted Air Force Base in the north.

When visiting Guam, you’ll probably choose to stay in one of the resorts along Tumon Bay. These luxury resorts provide every amenity you could desire including private spas and water parks for the kids. After you’ve settled in, spend your first evening on the island at Chamorro Village which is next to Paseo de Susana. This public market is a great way to experience the culture of the native Chamorro people through crafts and local cuisine.

One of the most impressive locations in Guam is Two Lover’s Point. Legend has it that two Chamorro lovers jumped to their deaths from this point when they were forbidden to marry. Sad love story aside, this precipice offers breathtaking views of the island’s shoreline. For the more daring traveler, look straight down the precipice for a simply awesome view of the waves crashing against the rocks at the base of the mountain. It’s something you’ll never forget.

The Island of Guam was a major player in World War II, and there are many relics scattered around the island. If you enjoy scuba diving, the bomb craters left from the war are now home to some of the most colorful species of underwater life. However, if you’re a land lover, the water is so clear that you can enjoy the colorful fish without donning scuba gear!

Finally, Guam’s inland boasts some stunningly beautiful waterfalls. Talofofo Falls is a thirty-foot cascade of water that drops into a deep pool that is open for swimming. Here you can explore a cave that a Japanese sergeant inhabited for thirty years, thinking World War II was still being fought.

Guam is a paradise that is worlds away from the mainland, yet is still a part of America. To experience the friendliness of Pacific life, you must visit this emerald gem!
